Madhya Pradesh Takes the Front Seat in the Center's Green Credit Programme Initiatives

Madhya Pradesh leads the Centre's Green Credit Programme (GCP) with over 500 approved land parcels for tree plantation across 10 states.
A total of 10,000 hectares of land have been identified for the programme by participating states.
MP reports the highest approved degraded forest land for plantation/greening exercises, totaling 954 hectares.
Other states with approved land parcels include Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Assam, among others.
Public sector undertakings and entities are registered to carry out plantations on degraded forest land and earn green credits.
The programme aims to nurture ecosystem services and promote non-carbon environmental positive actions.
Tree species selection for each degraded forest land block will involve collaboration with relevant forest departments and the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE).
