Madhya Pradesh Takes the Front Seat in the Center's Green Credit Programme Initiatives

  • Madhya Pradesh leads the Centre's Green Credit Programme (GCP) with over 500 approved land parcels for tree plantation across 10 states.
  • A total of 10,000 hectares of land have been identified for the programme by participating states.
  • MP reports the highest approved degraded forest land for plantation/greening exercises, totaling 954 hectares.
  • Other states with approved land parcels include Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Assam, among others.
  • Public sector undertakings and entities are registered to carry out plantations on degraded forest land and earn green credits.
  • The programme aims to nurture ecosystem services and promote non-carbon environmental positive actions.
  • Tree species selection for each degraded forest land block will involve collaboration with relevant forest departments and the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE).
