Indian Army to Acquire Indigenously Developed ‘Anant Shastra’ Air Defence Missile System

The Indian Army has issued a tender to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for acquiring 5–6 regiments of the indigenously developed ‘Anant Shastra’ surface-to-air missile (SAM) system. Earlier known as QRSAM, the system is jointly developed by DRDO, BEL and Bharat Dynamics Limited at an estimated cost of ₹30,000 crore. Fully mobile and designed to provide air defence on the move, it features advanced radars, automatic fire control, multi-target tracking and a range of up to 30 km and altitude coverage of 10 km. The Anant Shastra system reinforces India’s border air defence capabilities against threats from Pakistan and China and reflects the growing self-reliance of the defence sector under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
