Informal recycling methods expose workers and nearby communities to toxic substances like lead, mercury, and cadmium, causing respiratory illnesses, neurological disorders, and other severe health issues. Experts warn that the problem persists due to unchecked digital consumption, weak enforcement, and low awareness of safe disposal methods. To mitigate these risks, stronger regulation, consumer awareness campaigns, worker protection, and eco-friendly manufacturing practices are being emphasized as crucial steps towards balancing India’s digital progress with environmental and public health safety.
