  • India observed National Safety Day on March 4, 2026, marking the 55th National Safety Week and reaffirming its commitment to workplace safety, occupational health and accident prevention across all industries and institutions.
  • The National Safety Council, established on March 4, 1966, first celebrated National Safety Day in 1972, building a voluntary movement focused on safety, health and environmental protection that has grown continuously over nearly six decades.
  • The 2026 theme — "Engage, Educate and Empower People to Enhance Safety" — emphasises active participation, skill-building and individual responsibility, with the campaign now expanded into a full National Safety Month featuring workshops, drills, training sessions and awareness programmes throughout March.
  • The observance holds special significance in 2026 as the National Safety Council approaches 60 years of service, with industries such as manufacturing, construction, mining and transportation using the occasion to reinforce safety regulations and promote occupational health standards.
