Government declares Adichunchanagiri in Karnataka and Choolannuar in Kerala as Peacock Sanctuary

  • The Central Government has officially declared Adichunchanagiri in Karnataka and Choolannuar in Kerala as Peacock Sanctuaries. Adichunchanagiri, situated in Mandya District, was first notified in 1981 and declared in 1999, while Choolannur Peafowl Sanctuary in Palakkad District was declared in 1996.
  • Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, highlighted the conservation measures for the national bird, including the establishment of breeding and conservation centers for peacocks.
