External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar unveils a plaque commemorating the "Bhoodan Grove" in the Jerusalem Forest

  • S Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, unveiled the Bhoodan Grove plaque at the Jerusalem Forest.
  • With the goal of maintaining Mahatma Gandhi's concept of the village as the basic unit of development, Indian leaders who were exploring ways to implement the socialist ideals of the Sarvodaya movement, namely the ideals of Bhoodan and Gramdan, made several visits to Israel to study the social structure of various forms of Israel's communal and cooperative institutions — 'Kibbutzim and Moshavim.'
  • The Jewish National Fund presented Dr. Jaishankar with a certificate after the plaque was unveiled at Bhoodan Grove.

About Sarvodaya movement

  • Sarvodaya is a Sanskrit phrase that means "universal uplift" or "all advancement." Mahatma Gandhi coined the phrase as the title of his 1908 translation of John Ruskin's book on political economics, Unto This Last, and Gandhi went on to use it to describe his own political philosophy's objective.
  • Sarvodaya refers to the creation of a new social order based on love and nonviolence. It is a powerful intellectual movement aimed at achieving Gandhiji's vision of social, moral, and economic freedom. Its goal is to create a social order that is free of all forms of authority. Dada Dharmadhikari, Jaya Prakash Narayan and Vinoba Bhave were all supporters and members of the Sarvodaya Movement and carried it forward.
