The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the continuation of the Biomedical Research Career Programme (BRCP), Phase III, covering 2025-26 to 2030-31, with a total budget of ₹1,500 crore—₹1,000 crore from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and ₹500 crore from the Wellcome Trust, UK. Implemented through the DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance (India Alliance), the programme aims to nurture top-tier scientific talent, promote interdisciplinary biomedical research, and strengthen research systems across India. Phase III will include Early Career and Intermediate Research Fellowships, Collaborative Grants Programme, and a Research Management Programme, focusing on mentorship, networking, public engagement, and international partnerships.
