बांग्लादेश ने इतिहास रचते हुए संयुक्त राष्ट्र जल अभिसमय (UN Water Convention) से जुड़ने वाला दक्षिण एशिया का पहला और विश्व का 56वां देश बन गया। यह संधि साझा सीमापार नदियों के संरक्षण और उपयोग के लिए कानूनी एवं संस्थागत ढांचा प्रदान करती है। गंगा-ब्रह्मपुत्र-मेघना जैसी नदियों पर निर्भर बांग्लादेश के लिए यह कदम सतत जल प्रबंधन, समान उपयोग और जल विवादों की रोकथाम की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण है। यह सदस्यता बांग्लादेश को जल सुरक्षा और जलवायु परिवर्तन से उत्पन्न चुनौतियों से निपटने में सहयोग देगी। भारत जहाँ द्विपक्षीय समझौतों को प्राथमिकता देता है, वहीं बांग्लादेश का यह कदम क्षेत्रीय जल कूटनीति में नया अध्याय खोलता है।
