  • Recently the Union Defense Ministry has announced that military women will get equal leave for maternity and child care.
  • This proposal has been approved by Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
  • With the release of this rule, all women in the army will get equal leave, whether they are officers or working in any other rank.
  • At present women officers in all three services are eligible for 180 days of maternity leave.
  • Women officers adopting a child below one year of age are also eligible for 180 days.
  • Permanent Commissioned Women Officers are eligible for 360 days child care leave.
  • This will also improve the working conditions of women in the army and help in creating a balance between professional and family life.
