The national capital will soon have world's largest museum, namely 'Yuge Yugeen Bharat' National Museum. The existing buildings of North Block and South Block will be converted into the national museum in New Delhi.
The Sanskrit name “Yuge Yugeen Bharat” translates to “everlasting India” in English. It captures the eternal character of the country’s history.
The iconic blocks were constructed by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker in the 1930s and have long served as the hub of Indian governance.
In 2021, the government announced plans to convert the North and South Blocks into museums.
The North and South blocks of the Central Secretariat complex were built during the 1930s.
The South Block houses the Prime Minister’s Office, External Affairs Ministry, and Defence Ministry, while the North Block is home to the ministries of Finance and Home.
