Introduction of JNVST Class 9th Exam:

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) for Class 9 is a competitive lateral entry exam conducted to fill vacant seats in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) across India. The exam is administered by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) and is based on the Class 8 NCERT syllabus. It aims to provide quality, modern education to talented students, particularly from rural areas, with free education, boarding, and uniforms.

JNVST Class 9 2027 Exam Pattern

• Test type: Objective

• One (1) mark will be given for every correct answer.

• No negative marking will be done. 

• Duration: 2 ½ hours

• No breaks during the test

• Minimum qualifying marks required in all 04 subjects

• Subjects: Mathematics, Science, and two languages

• Merit list prepared based on marks in three subjects:

          o Mathematics

          o Science

          o One of the two languages in which the candidate scored higher marks

Eligibility Criteria for JNVST Class 9th- 

To be eligible for the JNVST Class 9 lateral entry exam, a candidate must meet the following criteria:

Class: The candidate must be studying in Class 8 in a recognized school during the academic session 2026-2027.

District: The candidate must be a bonafide resident of the district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is located and must be studying in a school of the same district.

Previous Attempts: The candidate must not have appeared for the JNVST previously.

Age criteria:

Candidates must be born between May 1, 2012, and July 31, 2014 (both days inclusive). 

This age criteria applies uniformly to all candidates, including SC/ST/OBC categories (no upper age relaxation).

Verification of age:

• In case of doubts regarding the age mentioned in their certificates, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti may refer candidates to a medical board for age verification.

NVS Class 9 Admit Card

The admit cards will be made available as per date decided by NVS in due course which will be displayed on application portal preferably one month before the examination.
