The United Nations General Assembly had approved the proposal to celebrate this day in the year 2007.
Diabetes is a long-term disease that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.
This increases the amount of glucose in the blood.
This condition is called hyperglycaemia.

Whereas in the year 2022, 53.7 crore people are suffering from diabetes.
This number will cross 65 crores in the year 2030.
The theme of World Diabetes Day for the year 2023 is 'Access to Diabetes Care'.
