World Day of War Orphans Observed on January 6

World Day of War Orphans is observed annually on January 6 to highlight the plight of children who lose one or both parents due to wars and armed conflicts. Initiated by the French organisation SOS Enfants en Détresses, the day draws attention to the emotional trauma, insecurity and lack of basic facilities faced by war orphans. It urges governments, humanitarian agencies and societies to ensure protection, rehabilitation, education and dignity for millions of conflict-affected children worldwide.
