  • 20 February is observed globally as the World Day of Social Justice, as declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007. The 2026 theme, “Renewed Commitment to Social Development and Social Justice,” comes in the post-Doha context following renewed global pledges on poverty eradication, decent work and social inclusion.
  • The observance stresses key priorities such as full employment, universal social protection, gender equality and transition from informal to formal economies. It calls for translating political declarations into measurable policy action aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • The International Labour Organization plays a central role through its 2008 Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization, reinforcing the Decent Work Agenda. Decent work—fair income, workplace security and equal opportunity—is central to SDG 8 and sustainable development worldwide.
