Costa Rica Launches Snake Identification App

Costa Rica has introduced a free mobile app called ICP App to help identify venomous snakes.
Developed by Universidad de Costa Rica’s Clodomiro Picado Institute, it addresses frequent public confusion.
The app covers 25 venomous snake species and commonly confused non-venomous ones.
It provides visual identification, first aid guidance for snakebites, and location logging features.
The initiative aims to reduce panic, prevent harm to harmless snakes, and improve public safety.
It promotes better human-wildlife coexistence through scientific information.
