  • The Palamu Tiger Reserve has launched the ‘Vanjeevi Didi’ initiative to empower women in forest and wildlife conservation under Project Tiger. Under the programme, 18 educated women from each of 17 villages have been selected as forest ambassadors to spread awareness and discourage poaching and deforestation.
  • The initiative was rolled out in the Garu range, targeting remote hinterland villages to build grassroots participation in biodiversity protection. Each selected woman will receive a monthly incentive of ₹3,000, with the project initially planned for two months before review.
  • Beyond conservation, the women will promote education, government schemes, and community development. The initiative highlights India’s growing focus on inclusive, community-based conservation models for sustainable forest management.
