On 14 January 2025, the Republican-led US House of Representatives passed a bill that prohibits transgender players in educational institutions from participating in women's and girls' sports.
The bill defines sex on the basis of "reproductive biology and genes at birth", and prohibits transgender athletes from participating in teams according to their gender identity.
