  • It is India's first and the world's second polarimetry mission after NASA's Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer, launched in 2021.
  • XPoSat aims to study the 50 brightest sources in the universe.
  • These include pulsars, black hole X-ray binaries, active galactic nuclei, neutron stars and the remnants of non-thermal supernovae.
  • This satellite will be installed in a low earth orbit of 500-700 km.
