Indian-origin economist Tharman Shanmugaratnam has emerged victorious in Singapore’s presidential election.
Tharman Shanmugaratnam defeated two contenders of Chinese origin in the country’s first contested presidential polls since 2011.
Tharman secured 70.4% of the votes, while Ng Kok Song and Tan Kin Lian received 15.7% and 13.88% respectively.
The president-elect, Tharman, had served as Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister from 2011 to 2019.
