  • The Somnath Swabhiman Parv will be observed from 8 to 11 January 2026 as a national event marking 1,000 years since the first recorded attack on the Somnath Temple in January 1026. The commemoration focuses on resilience, unwavering faith, and civilisational pride rather than the memory of destruction.
  • The year 2026 also marks 75 years since the reopening of the present Somnath Temple to devotees on 11 May 1951 after Independence. Together, these milestones form the basis of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv. Somnath holds special religious significance as the first of the twelve Aadi Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
