Senior Maharashtra politician Sharad Pawar announced his resignation as chief of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Sharad Pawar formed the NCP in 1999 after separating from the Congress.
The Congress had in 1999 expelled three dissident leaders, one of which was Sharad Pawar, for opposing Sonia Gandhi’s candidacy for Prime Minister because she was born in Italy.
He has served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for four ministries.
He has served in the Union Council Of Ministers as the Minister of Defence in the Cabinet of P.V Narsimha Rao and Minister of Agriculture in the Cabinet of Manmahon Singh.
