Saudi Arabia has imposed a full poultry and egg import ban on 40 countries, including India, Bangladesh, China, the UK, Germany, and Japan, citing public health concerns and risks from avian influenza. The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) announced the decision following global epidemiological updates and veterinary risk assessments.
The ban covers poultry meat and table eggs, while partial restrictions apply to certain regions in 16 other countries, including the US, Australia, France, and Canada. Heat-treated and processed poultry products from approved facilities remain exempt, provided they carry official health certification.
Saudi Arabia’s move aims to protect domestic poultry health, prevent the spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and Newcastle disease, and ensure food safety. Authorities regularly review import policies based on updated international disease monitoring and epidemiological reports to safeguard public health and domestic agriculture.
