Russia has announced that it plans to launch a lunar lander in the second week of August after several delays, hoping to return to the moon for the first time in more than 50 years.
Russia's space agency Roscosmos has said that the luna-25 lander will be launched in the early hours of Friday.
The launch is the first mission of Moscow's new lunar program, and comes at a time when President Vladimir Putin wants to boost space cooperation with China after relations with the West deteriorated following the start of Moscow's offensive in Ukraine last year.
