Renowned filmmaker K P Kumaran has won the J C Daniel Award, the highest honour in Malayalam cinema, for his overall contribution to the Malayalam film industry.
He was selected by a jury chaired by singer P Jayachandran. The award comprises of a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a plaque.
It will be presented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on August 3.
Kumaran has gifted Malayalees numerous great films like ‘Akasha Gopuram’, ‘Athithi’ and ‘Rugmini’.
He won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Director for his movie ‘Rugmini’ in 1988. He has also won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam.
