  • Renowned filmmaker K P Kumaran has won the J C Daniel Award, the highest honour in Malayalam cinema, for his overall contribution to the Malayalam film industry.
  • He was selected by a jury chaired by singer P Jayachandran. The award comprises of a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a plaque. 
  • It will be presented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on August 3.
  • Kumaran has gifted Malayalees numerous great films like ‘Akasha Gopuram’, ‘Athithi’ and ‘Rugmini’.
  • He won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Director for his movie ‘Rugmini’ in 1988. He has also won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam.
