Mali is a landlocked country in the Western African continent.
Recently the United Nations peacekeeping mission in this country has ended after 10 years.
The reason for the end of this peacekeeping mission is said to be the insufficient number of peacekeepers compared to the increasing incidents of terrorism.
The UN mission, which began in 2013, was aimed at bringing peace and stability to the conflict-torn nation.
Instability in Mali began with the Tuareg rebellion in 2012.
The military government in Mali, installed after a May 2021 coup, has requested the withdrawal of the UN peacekeeping mission, saying it has been ineffective in stopping raids by jihadists, especially in the north of the country.
The UN Security Council then adopted a resolution in June, authorizing withdrawal by December 31, 2023.
