Recently, the President of India presented the National Award for the year 2023 for the empowerment of persons with disabilities.
These awards were presented in New Delhi.
President Draupadi Murmu said that about 15 percent of the total world population are persons with disabilities and their empowerment is a high priority.
A total of 21 individuals and 9 institutions were presented with the National Awards 2023 by the President.
Jyoti Sinha of Muzaffarpur, Bihar was honored with the National Award 2023 for 'Best Divyangjan'.
Jyoti Sinha suffers from 70% muscular dystrophy.
Jyoti has been awarded the National Award 2023 for Individual Excellence in the category of Best Disabled Person in the Field of Art and Culture for her excellent work in the field of Madhubani painting.
Divyangjan Empowerment Award was started in the year 1969.
