  • Saiga is a small species of deer.
  • Its scientific name is Saiga Tatarica.
  • It is approximately the size of a goat.
  • It has a sloping body, a large head and a distinctive pendulous proboscis nose.
  • It is light beige in color, which becomes thick and white in winter.
  • Currently, this species of deer is found in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia and Mongolia.
  • Their habitat is both plains and desert areas.
  • It was listed as 'Critically Endangered' by the IUCN in 2001.
  • Due to recent increases in its conservation, it has been moved from endangered to near threatened.
  • For the conservation of animals, IUNC publishes them in the Red Data Book.
