Inland Waterways Development Council was held in Kolkata in January 2024.
This was the first meeting of the Inland Waterways Development Council.
The meeting was presided over by Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
In this meeting, a commitment was made to invest Rs 45 thousand crore for the development of river cruise tourism in the country.
In this ambitious allocation, an estimated Rs 35 thousand crore has been earmarked for cruise ships.
Whereas Rs 10 thousand crore will be invested for the development of cruise terminal infrastructure by the year 2047.
Sonowal also launched 'Green Boating' Guidelines and 'River Cruise Tourism Roadmap, 2047' at the meeting.
