  • The Union Cabinet has recently approved the Migration and Movement Agreement with Italy.
  • This agreement was signed by India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in November 2023.
  • According to this agreement, Indian students wishing to gain experience after completing academic/vocational training in Italy can be allowed temporary residence in Italy for up to 12 months.
  • Italy has extensive provisions relating to vocational training, extra-curricular internships and curricular internships. 
  • These provide an opportunity for Indian students to gain exposure to Italian skill standards.
  • This agreement will be applicable for 5 years from the date of approval.
  • This Agreement will automatically renew for equal successive periods unless terminated by either party.
