  • The Hutti community resides in the Trans-Giri region of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
  • Recently the Hatti community has been granted Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
  • Himachal Pradesh Government has issued a notification in this regard.
  • The Central Government had amended the Constitution in August 2023 to give Scheduled Tribe status to this community.
  • It was notified in the Gazette by the name of the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Act, 2023.
  • The Huttis are a close-knit community, deriving their name from their tradition of selling homegrown vegetables, crops, meat and wool etc. in small markets called 'Haats' in the towns.
  • The Hattis are governed by a traditional council called the Khumbali, which, like the Khaps of Haryana, decides community affairs.
  • Scheduled Tribe status is given to any community by the Parliament.
