The Hutti community resides in the Trans-Giri region of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
Recently the Hatti community has been granted Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
Himachal Pradesh Government has issued a notification in this regard.
The Central Government had amended the Constitution in August 2023 to give Scheduled Tribe status to this community.
It was notified in the Gazette by the name of the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Act, 2023.
The Huttis are a close-knit community, deriving their name from their tradition of selling homegrown vegetables, crops, meat and wool etc. in small markets called 'Haats' in the towns.
The Hattis are governed by a traditional council called the Khumbali, which, like the Khaps of Haryana, decides community affairs.
Scheduled Tribe status is given to any community by the Parliament.
