The Gujarat government has recently declared 'Ghol Fish' as the state fish.
This announcement was made by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel at the World Fisheries Conference.
The World Fisheries Conference was recently organized in Ahmedabad.
The scientific name of Ghol fish is 'Protonibia diacanthus'.
Ghol fish is also called goldfish.
Apart from the coasts of Gujarat, this fish is also found in Maharashtra.
It is one of the largest fish found in India.
Rich in nutrients like iodine, omega-3, DHA, EPA, iron, taurine, magnesium, fluoride and selenium, this fish is considered a powerhouse of nutrition.
This fish is especially in demand due to its meat and air bladder.
It is used to make beer and wine.
Also, its air bladder is used in pharmaceuticals.
