  • In December 2023, China has built the world's deepest underground laboratory.
  • This laboratory is equivalent to 120 swimming pools.
  • This lab has been built in Sichuan province of China.
  • The depth of this lab is 1.5 miles.
  • This lab is almost twice the size of Italy's Gran Sasso National Laboratory.
  • Gran Sasso National Laboratory was previously the world's largest underground laboratory.
  • This laboratory has been built to study the biggest unsolved mystery of the universe, 'Dark Matter'.
  • At least a quarter of the universe is believed to be made up of dark matter.
  • It is an almost invisible substance, which does not absorb, emit or reflect light.
  • All cosmic rays hinder the detection of dark matter.
  • But due to the depth of this lab, all those rays will be stopped, which will help the scientists to study this mysterious element better.
