  • The nomination of four women to a panel of Vice-Chairpersons created a history as it is for the first time that equal representation has been given to women in the panel of Vice-Chairpersons.
  • They are PT Usha, S. Phangnon Konyak, Dr. Fauzia Khan, and Sulata Deo.
  • Four women MPs have been appointed by the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankar.
  • One of the newly nominated women members is S. Phangnon Konyak. She is the first woman to be elected as a Member of the Rajya Sabha from Nagaland in April 2022 and the second woman from the State to be elected to either the House of the Parliament or the State Assembly.
  • The main function of a panel of vice-chairpersons is to assist the chairman or the deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha in conducting its functions efficiently.
