Charanjit Singh Channi, the chief minister of Punjab, announced the 'Mera Ghar Mere Naam' (my house in my name) scheme to grant proprietary rights to people who have lived in 'lal dora' of villages and towns for generations.
Previously, residents of the 'lal dora' did not have ownership rights and could not sell their properties.
The people of Punjab who live in Lal Dora will benefit from the 'Mera Ghar, Mere Naam' scheme. The Punjab government will soon introduce legislation to prevent encroachment on the property of NRIs in Punjab and to keep the property in the NRI's name.
