  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a 12 km long tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir's Sonamarg on 13 January 2025, which has been built at a cost of ₹2,700 crore. The tunnel will ensure all-weather seamless connectivity between Srinagar and Ladakh.
  • The tunnel will boost winter tourism and local livelihood in Sonamarg. It will reduce the travel distance between Srinagar and Leh from 49 km to 43 km, which will reduce the speed of vehicles from 30 km/h to 70 km/h.
