  • Former Supreme Court judge Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar has been appointed as the chairperson of Lokpal by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
  • Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar will be the second Lokpal of India, succeeding Pinaki Chandra Ghose, who retired in May 2022.
  • Along with Justice Khanwilkar, former high court chief justices Lingappa Narayana Swamy, Sanjay Yadav, and Ritu Raj Awasthi have been appointed as judicial members of Lokpal.
  • Former Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra, along with Pankaj Kumar and Ajay Tirkey, has been appointed as non-judicial members of Lokpal.
  • With Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi's appointment as a judicial member of Lokpal, the government will need to select a new chairperson for the Law Commission.
