This day commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to Mumbai on 9 January 1915.
This day is celebrated to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community to the development of India.
Celebrating Migrant Day was started from the year 2003.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is a major program of the Ministry of External Affairs.
It is organized in different cities to showcase the diversity and progress of different regions of India.
Before the year 2015, this day was organized every year.
Since 2015, it is held every 2 years.
