  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend this year's Bastille Day Parade in Paris as the guest of honour on July 14.
  • An Indian armed forces' contingent will also participate in the parade along with their French counterparts.
  • PM Modi's visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the "strategic partnership" between France and India.
  • India has purchased 36 Rafale fighter jets from France. French-owned shipbuilder Naval Group has helped build six submarines in India through a transfer of technology and the company could be eyeing more such deals.
  • In February, Air India agreed to purchase 250 commercial airplanes from Airbus.
  • Total goods trade between France and India approached $15.8 billion in 2022, a 6% increase from the previous year.
  • Bastille Day is named after the fall of a fortress that symbolised the French revolution of 1789.
  • In 2016, French President François Hollande was the chief guest at the Republic Day Parade. Beside the UK, France is the only other country that has been invited by India 5 times to take part in the parade. Russia and Bhutan have each been invited four times.
  • In 2009, French President Nicolas Sarkozy had invited Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to attend the Bastille Day parade as the guest of honour.
