  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, France's highest civilian and military honour, by French President Emmanuel Macron.
  • Modi is the first Indian premier to receive this honour.
  • The Legion of Honor, founded by Napoleon Bonaparte, consists of five degrees, the award is divided into five categories, the first is the Grand Cross, the second is the Grand Officer, the third is the Commander, the fourth Officer, and the last Knight. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been given the first honor i.e. Grand Cross. Approximately 300 foreign nationals are awarded this honour annually, among a total membership of over 79,000.
  • In June, Egypt conferred the Order of the Nile on Modi. He also received the Order of the Druk Gyalpo from Bhutan in 2021, the Legion of Merit from the US in 2020, the Order of St Andrew from Russia in 2019, the Order of Zayed from the UAE in 2019, and the Order of Abdulaziz Al Saud from Saudia Arabia in 2016.
