The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has elected French economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas as its new Chief Economist.
Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas will replace Geeta Gopinath, of Indian origin, who has been in this post till now.
According to the report released in this regard, Gopinath is being given the responsibility of the first deputy managing director of the IMF's management team.
Gourinches, a French national, will begin his job on 24 January as the new chief economist of the IMF.
