  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has elected French economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas as its new Chief Economist. 
  • Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas will replace Geeta Gopinath, of Indian origin, who has been in this post till now.
  • According to the report released in this regard, Gopinath is being given the responsibility of the first deputy managing director of the IMF's management team.
  • Gourinches, a French national, will begin his job on 24 January as the new chief economist of the IMF.
