  • The Odisha government has given approval for setting up the world's first melanistic tiger safari.
  • The project aims to showcase melanistic tigers safely.
  • An area of 200 hectares adjacent to NH-18 has been earmarked for the project.
  • It has 100 hectares dedicated to the demonstration area, and the remaining space has been allocated for veterinary care, rescue centers, staff infrastructure, and other facilities.
  • The melanistic tigers found in Similipal Tiger Reserve are the only ones in this reserve worldwide.
  • The landscape of this reserve is reflective and it is famous as the only natural habitat.
  • The Odisha government has decided to inaugurate the Melanistic Tiger Safari and an area of 200 hectares on NH-18 has been selected for its inauguration support.
