  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that Visakhapatnam will be announced as the state’s new capital in the coming days.
  • The Chief Minister planned to develop three capitals for the state --Visakhapatnam (administrative), Amaravati (legislative) and Kurnool (judicial).
  • Visakhapatnam as the state headquarters would be the base of the state governor, while the legislature would function from Amaravati and the high court would be established at Kurnool.
  • Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh as a state in 2014, and Hyderabad was made the new capital of Telangana.
