  • A new butterfly species named Euthalia zubeengargi has been discovered in Arunachal Pradesh, further enriching the biodiversity of India’s northeastern region. Belonging to the genus Euthalia, which has over 80 species recorded in Northeast India, the butterfly features earthy brown wings with pale spots. It inhabits semi-evergreen forests at elevations between 600 and 750 metres.
  • The species displays calm flight patterns and is often seen resting on low vegetation or feeding on tree sap and minerals from moist surfaces near streams. Active mainly from late morning to early afternoon, it serves as an important bio-indicator of forest ecosystem health. The discovery reinforces Arunachal Pradesh’s status as a key biodiversity hotspot requiring sustained conservation attention.
