National Doctor's Day is observed on 1 July every year in India for the past 32 years.
The day is celebrated in India to recognize the selfless service and efforts of doctors for the betterment of the people.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) organises various programs and activities on National Doctor's Day.
The theme for National Doctor's Day 2023 is "Celebrating Resilience and Healing Hands".
It aims to recognize and appreciate the tireless efforts of medical professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The day is celebrated in the memory of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was born on 1st July 1882 and died on the same day in 1962.
He was a well-known doctor, educator, freedom fighter, and politician. He treated many individuals, saved their lives, and became an inspiration for many.
Dr B.C. Roy was awarded the "Bharat Ratna" for his works and achievements.
