The day is celebrated in the memory of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was born on 1st July 1882 and died on the same day in 1962.
He was a well-known doctor, educator, freedom fighter, and politician. He treated many individuals, saved their lives, and became an inspiration for many.
Dr B.C. Roy was awarded the "Bharat Ratna" for his works and achievements.
