NASA has re-established contact with the intrepid Ingenuity Mars Helicopter after more than two months of radio silence.
NASA sent a mission to Mars in February 2021. Under this mission, a mini helicopter Ingenuity and Preservation Rover were sent to Mars.
Ingenuity's 52nd flight launched on April 26, but mission controllers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California lost contact as it descended to the surface following its two minute, 1,191-foot (363-meter) hop.
Under this mission, the Ingenuity helicopter has to send pictures of Mars to NASA while flying and the rover has to collect samples from the ground of Mars.
The Ingenuity Mars Helicopter was built by JPL, which also manages the project for NASA Headquarters. It is supported by NASA’s Science Mission Directorate.
At NASA Headquarters, Dave Lavery is the program executive for the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter.
