  • The Ministry of Defence signed a contract worth 248 million USD (approximately 21.56 billion INR) for the purchase of 1,000 HP engines for T-72 tanks with the Russian company Rosoboronexport (ROE), which includes technology transfer (ToT).
  • Equipping the T-72 tanks with 1,000 HP engines will enhance the battlefield mobility and offensive capability of the Indian Army, which currently uses a 780 HP engine. 
  • These engines will be fully completed, fully ready, and semi-ready.
