  • Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection Project has been launched by the Prime Minister in January 2024.
  • This project will increase internet speed which will open new possibilities and opportunities.
  • For the first time after independence, Lakshadweep will be connected through submarine optic fiber cable.
  • The dedicated submarine OFC will ensure a paradigm shift in the communication infrastructure in Lakshadweep islands.
  • This will enable faster and more reliable internet services, telemedicine, e-governance, educational initiatives, digital banking, digital currency use, digital literacy etc.
  • The total length of optical fiber connection under this project is 1868 km.
  • About Rs 1000 crore has been spent on this project.
  • Under this project, 11 islands of Lakshadweep will be connected.
