  • Shigeru Ishiba, leader of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, has been officially elected as the country's Prime Minister after winning majority in both houses of parliament.
  • Ishiba is the 102nd prime minister of the country and has already appointed the next finance minister.
  • Shigeru replaces the country's outgoing Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who resigned from his post amid growing criticism over the ruling party's slush fund scandal and a drop in public approval ratings.
